Driver information

The driver’s interface to the system is the Driver Information Terminal. This displays information specific to that driver, vehicle, route or area. The driver must log on to the system using either a smart card or e.g. employee number and password. This ensures that each driver only receives the information which is relevant to him/her and that there is a traceable log of the information provided to and from that driver. The control room personnel can also monitor in this way any absent or late arriving drivers and plan accordingly.

Driver information exchange is two-way. By logging on at the terminal the shift/service begins and this is reported via an interface to the personnel time recording system. Drivers can display and print their next planned route/service and the vehicle allocated and its parking position. Other information can also be displayed such as e.g. dates for driver training programs and other internal communications.

Prior to the end of the service/shift drivers can report defects and service requirements or any other things e.g. unusual events, accidents, passenger incidents. When logging off the terminal the end of service/shift is reported to the personnel time recording system to record the hours worked or the hours of driving.
