At the heart of the PSI RTPI system lies the Control Center. The Control Center receives all of the data from the vehicles; input and adjustments made by the control center personnel; timetables, calendars, rosters, shifts and traffic conditions. It automatically generates the necessary information for feeding to displays at stops and on vehicles, for passengers and drivers.
When combined with the AVMS it is possible to display in the control center a clear picture of the disposition of all vehicles and their schedule adherence status. Delays to services are automatically detected and warnings shown on the displays according to standard pre-defined parameters. Manual intervention by the control center personnel is also possible and they can communicate with the driver (“end service at next stop – transfer passengers to next service which is 2 minutes behind”) or with the passengers (“ ABC Bus Services regret this service is delayed by 10 minutes”) on an ad hoc basis.
An additional option manages the allocation of vehicles to parking positions/bays in large multi-bay bus stations. The system will generate a recommended allocation based upon the current real time running status and the timetable. This allocation recommendation takes into account the use of certain bays for regular services and also minimizes where possible walking distances for passengers. The system prevents conflicts and the allocated bays are transmitted in advance to the approaching service so that the driver knows where to park and the passengers can see their connecting services with times and bay numbers.
